$2 Million Grant Fund for Libraries

From Steve Divnick, Inventor and Manufacturer of Spiral Wishing Wells: This library page and program was developed to compliment the thousands of "Save Our Library" groups that are springing up all over the country. Many library budgets are being slashed by as much as 50%. A Wishing Well will not replace all the budget shortfall, but it will sure help, and it will also attract more supporters and friends. It is our privilege to provide a product that generates so much money from people who have a big smile on their faces as they make the donation. And with the grants we have secured, it is as easy as ever before.

ProjectKindness.org has stepped up in a big way with a Grant Fund to help with this program. We hope you will be able to take advantage of this fund while it lasts. Please review the details below.

Sponsor a Well
for Your Library

Last Updated:

If you love your library, you can give the gift that keeps on giving...for many years to come! This is a wonderful gift in these challenging economic times. Libraries are in great need of additional funding as their traditional sources of revenue are drying up.

As illustrated in the accompanying photo, you can sponsor a Well "In honor of" or "In memory of" a person who has made a significant contribution to the library or the community.

Spiral Wishing Wells have raised over $200 million for libraries and other non-profit organizations throughout the world since 1985.

Children and parents love to watch coins spin around in circles at eye-blurring speeds seeming to defy the laws of gravity as they descend the nearly vertical walls of the funnel until they finally disappear into the locked base.

Click here to watch a short YouTube clip from our distributor in Japan.

“We have had a wishing well for several years, and raise $1200 to $2000 per year with it. We have used the money for a new building campaign, but when that is completed, the money will go to our children’s materials and programming.”
Champaign Public Library, Champaign Illinois
At special promoted events where people are encouraged to bring all their loose change from home, even larger amounts can be raised. The one day record is $7,352.39! We provide step-by-step strategies for events like this when a Well is first placed in the library and introduced to the community.

Science Demonstrations: While Spiral Wishing Wells are earning money, they are also teaching science. Be sure to check out our Student Guide* about tornados, whirlpools, funnel physics, planetary orbits, and nature’s gravity wells. Libraries can copy and use any of the pictures or descriptions on our website. They can loan their Well to science teachers, or invite them to bring their class to the library and conduct some of the funnel experiments. This is a great way to familiarize children with the library. (*All links in this middle column open in new browser windows so you won't lose your place on this page.)

Better than an endowment fund: Because Wells generate so much money, they are better than an endowment fund that is tied to the stock market. And it is a bonus that they are also educational. This is an exceptional opportunity to make a lifetime gift to your local or school library.

Additional Sponsorship Revenue

In addition to coin revenue, local companies provide additional money in the form corporate sponsorships as illustrated in these pictures.

They do this in exchange for getting their name on the Wells. Being associated with a library and reading books is a valuable community relations opportunity for companies, and they can’t get better advertising than having their “Sponsored by” logo and message on a Well in the library.

We will help the library line up this additional yearly revenue with a step-by-step strategy.

The Two-Footer for smaller spaces.

"We have had two Spiral Wishing Wells since 1995. We raised about $2300 the first year in a campaign to re-carpet the library. One of the Wells is in the Children's Area and the other is near the Circulation Desk. We have funded special projects such as our Building Expansion Campaign completed in 2005, equipment for Youth Services, programming, etc. Even though the Wells are no longer new to the library, they still raise lots of money and the children love watching coins whirl through the funnel.” Palmer Public Library , Palmer MA

How long do the Project Kindness grants last? Since they are donating the grant amount out of available funds, they are not able to commit unlimited timing. They are currently pledged on orders faxed or mailed before the end of March 2010. If after that, unless they are able to extend the funding, the commercial cost will apply.

Sizes: Most libraries get Three-Footers. They are the most popular size, so we are able to pass the production savings on to the library resulting in the same cost as the Two-Footers. If the library doesn't have enough floor space, then the Two-Footers can raise just as much money as the large Wells. The coins race as fast in the larger Well, they just don't have as many of the slower initial revolutions.

Quantities: The grants are typically limited to "1 per library". However, if you want more than one, as long as they have available funds and you have a good place to put the second Well, or if you actively rent it out, they will extend the grants to multipl Wells.

Includes Everything: Each Well includes everything the library needs to put it into immediate service, including a generic sign into which they can insert their name under the "Proceeds go to" phrase. It even comes with a padlock and 2 keys. See the FAQ's below for more details.

No splits: If you provide a Well for your library, 100% of the revenue permanently belongs to the library...there are no splits with us or any professional fund raisers.

Tax-Deductible Sponsorship

Your sponsorship is tax-deductible. It is as simple as contacting your library and letting them know you want to provide a Spiral Wishing Well for them (you can refer them to this web page). You will donate the sponsorship share to them so it is tax-deductible, and they will place the order using our Library Sponsorship Order Form. You can print that form and take it to the library along with your check to them. They complete the form and fax it to us. It is as simple as that.

FAQ's

Q: Who is responsible for the sponsorship plate?
A: Not every sponsor wants the recognition, perhaps preferring to do it anonymously. But if you want a plate, we can make and affix a brass-like vinyl plate for you $25, or you can have it made locally at a trophy shop or store like "Things Remembered", although they typically charge $75 or more. Of course, this can also be made and affixed at a later time. If you want us to make it for you, please let us know what you want it to say and we will reply with confirmation about how to add it to your order form. (see above contact options)

Q: Who makes the corporate sponsorship sign?
A: Again, we can make the sponsorship signs, but most companies have them made by their local own sign maker. We recommend a simple 12" diameter 1/8" thick plastic sign with common 4-color digital vinyl printing like the one shown here. The sponsorship signs are easily bolted to the door on the base. This allows them to be changed from year to year.

Q: Are there any other requirements to qualify for the Project Kindness Grant?
A: The library does not need to fill out any application, and there are no reporting requirements. However, the order form must be copied on library letterhead, and the Well must be shipped directly to the library.

Q: What is the shipping cost?
A: Click here to see the shipping rates.

If you are ready to place an order, please click here to see the PDF order form. Otherwise, please let us know if you have any questions using the contact options in the "Contact Us" section above.
